With her team of computer scientists, philosophers, and legal scholars, she provides hands-on, research based consulting in integrating ethics analyses into AI innovation and implementing responsible AI governance and strategy for organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cansu has a Ph.D. in philosophy specializing in applied ethics. She serves as an ethics and governance expert in various ethics, advisory, and editorial boards and as an ethics and strategy advisor to Fortune 500 companies. She is an appointed member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/news\/item\/29-09-2025-who-europe-launches-technical-advisory-group-on-artificial-intelligence-for-health\"><strong>World Health Organization<\/strong>&#8216;s Technical Advisory Group on AI for Health<\/a> to guide the ethical, responsible, and equitable use of AI in health across the WHO European Region. She works with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/initiatives.weforum.org\/ai-governance-alliance\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>World Economic Forum<\/strong>\u2019s AI Governance Alliance<\/a>&nbsp;in developing guidelines and best practices for&nbsp;\u201cResponsible AI Application and Transformation\u201d and&nbsp;\u201cResponsible AI Playbook for Investors\u201d. She co-designed and co-developed the&nbsp;\u201cToolkit for Responsible AI Innovation in Law Enforcement\u201d&nbsp;for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unicri.it\/topics\/Toolkit-Responsible-AI-for-Law-Enforcement-INTERPOL-UNICRI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>UNICRI Centre for AI &amp; Robotics and the INTERPOL<\/strong><\/a>, serving as their&nbsp;<strong>AI Ethics and Governance Expert<\/strong>&nbsp;consultant.<br><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--x-small);margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Cansu primarily works on ethics of technology, having previously worked extensively on ethics and health. Prior to AI Ethics Lab, she was on the full-time faculty at the University of Hong Kong, and an ethics researcher at the Harvard Law School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, National University of Singapore, Osaka University, and the World Health Organization. Among others, she is also a founding editor for the international peer-reviewed journal&nbsp;<em>AI &amp; Ethics<\/em>&nbsp;(Springer Nature), serves as an ethics expert for EU and NIH funded research projects, chairs the IEEE AI Ethics Experts Network Criteria Committee and Northeastern\u2019s IRB. A two-time TEDx speaker, Cansu has given over 150 talks on AI ethics, including keynotes at Harvard Business School, the U.S. Department of Justice, her TEDxCambridge talk&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/cansu_canca_how_to_solve_ai_s_ethical_puzzles\"><em>How to Solve AI\u2019s Ethical Puzzles<\/em><\/a>, and several others. She was listed among the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/laptrinhx.com\/30-influential-women-advancing-ai-in-boston-3099369661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201c30 Influential Women Advancing AI in Boston\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;and the original&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/100brilliantwomeninaiethics.com\/the-list\/of-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201c100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics\u201d,<\/a>&nbsp;nominated for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/ai\/announcing-the-nominees-for-venturebeats-5th-annual-women-in-ai-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VentureBeat\u2019s \u201cWomen in AI\u201d<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.responsible.ai\/raise-2024-the-future-of-responsible-ai-ai-governance-leadership-in-rai-awards\/\">Responsible AI Institute&#8217;s &#8220;Leadership in Responsible AI&#8221;<\/a>,&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ai-med.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AIMed\u2019s \u201cAI Champions in Healthcare\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;awards, and recognized with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rise25.mozilla.org\/change-agents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mozilla\u2019s Rise25 \u201cChange Agent\u201d award<\/a>.
